UC Davis Equine Performance & Rehabilitation Center

For phase 3 of the Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center at UC Davis, California, we drew the formwork for the concrete around a treadmill pit: slab edge forms, walls stepping down to the bottom of the treadmill, bulkheads and block-outs. The 12-sheet set is organised pour phase by pour phase.

Plywood panels on 2×4 lumber, detailed to the Cam-Lock forming hardware the contractor planned to use: Cam-Lock brackets, stiff-back clamps and cam-ties on the walls, with lumber braces and strong supports. Slab edges are formed with panels held by metal form stakes at 2 ft spacing and kicker braces.

• Panel schedules listing every panel with its size, count and area. Phase 5 alone has 74 panels, about 1,700 sq ft
• Lumber schedules by length, down to the kicker braces: 886 of them in phase 6
• Details of the Cam-Lock connections, bulkheads and block-out boxes

Every panel on the walls of the pit has a different height as the walls step down. With a panel schedule per phase, the crew can cut and build the panels before the pour instead of fitting them on the wall, and order the lumber once.
